CrossCultural Experience

In the classroom, you’ll learn the theory of culture. Carroll offers a variety of ways to learn about other cultures. Whether you travel abroad or domestically, or stay right on campus, you’ll learn to see the world through someone else’s eyes and build understanding for people, places and ideas that are different from your own. The CCE course is built into the general education requirements so you receive credit for studying another culture.

The ability to work with people from different cultures is one of the top skills employers are looking for in new graduates. Carroll’s program gives you an edge in a job market that is placing an increasing emphasis on cultural competency.

Innovative Curriculum that Maximizes the Value of your General Education Experience

As part of the Pioneer Core, every undergraduate student at Carroll will participate in a CCE as a requirement to graduate. The CCE requirement allows students to apply knowledge learned through experiential learning activities such as: off-campus immersive or in-classroom hands-on experience. Students choose to complete either a Global Education Course CCEs with locations ranging from fully on campus to all around the globe, OR a Study Abroad CCE where students travel abroad to take classes for a few weeks, a semester, or an entire academic year.

1. FOUNDATION

In the classroom, students will learn about a specific country or culture by exploring its values, traditions, and social practices and empower students to build real-world skills—like communication, problem-solving, and innovative thinking.

2. EXPERIENCE

Students will engage in interactive activities that provide first-hand experiences with cultural practices, traditions, and media—such as cooking demonstrations, guest speakers, or visiting the country being discussed!

3. REFLECTION

Students are expected to reflect on what they have experienced—usually through a written reflection; however, many students go beyond this, creating videos, photo essays, artworks, and presentations.

CCE Options

Our CCE opportunities range from Waukesha to Seoul and many places in between. To complete the CCE requirement, students will choose between taking a Global Education Course CCE or a Study Abroad Program CCE. You’ll have the flexibility to choose a CCE that matches your interests and your budget. At Carroll, the world truly is your classroom

Global Education Course CCE

Students enroll in a Carroll University course led by a faculty member, designed to support meaningful cross-cultural learning. A variety of options are available, including on-campus, local, domestic, and international locations.

Study Abroad CCE

Studying abroad is a great way to maximize your CCE while earning course credits towards your college degree. Options range from two weeks to an entire academic year.
